Masters of Rocks - the biggest heavy metal festival in Europe

It was such a splendid time out there!
Admittedly, we’ve returned home last week, but I couldn’t find any time for writing then. I had some housework to catch up and I realized that I prefer to spend my free time with my family more than on the internet.
I never add my posts regularly, but anyway, I’m glad about how my blog looks like and how it works. I feel it’s my safe place, where I’ve found kind and friendly people.
Czech Republic - it’s always hard to drive through this country. Roads renovation is the neverending story. Upon my word, every time I go to the Czech Republic the same roads are closed or partly impassable. And actually, I’ve been to this country over a dozen times in the last few years.
People are usually friendly, but it’s almost impossible to talk to them in English. But Czechs understand everything in Polish, they usually answer in their native language. Well, you’ll easily understand each other in any other Slavonic language. It’s the same in the whole country, including the airport in the capital city…
What do I like the most about the Czech Republic? For sure the provincial way of life. You probably don’t know what I mean. Let me explain. In the Czech Republic, people usually don’t make any online shopping. There is no selling platform (like eBay) there, people prefer to go out from home and buy some stuff. Of course, there are chain stores in the Czech Republic, but most popular are still small shops, boutiques, fashion houses, marketplaces, and handicraft workshops. In my opinion, it’s totally awesome!
The Czech Republic looks like a Poland in the ’80s a bit. It’s charming and I feel it makes people getting closer.

The atmosphere was amazing! I think, events like this connects people. It doesn’t matter what nationality you are, what’s your skin color, sexual orientation or even your political beliefs - we’re all making one big metal family!

Festival lasted 4 days, of course I didn’t know all the bands, I also haven’t planned to listen them all. I’ve just picked the ones I like and I went for their show only.

The first day I could hear live Rhapsody of Fire, Delain, Gamma Ray, Eluveitie, and Deathstars. Eluveitie is my newest discovery; folk-metal - it’s a combination of electric guitars with violin, flute, harp with the pure girlish voice and the obstreperous growl (believe me, it sounds interesting).
Also, the Deathstars band is a new sound on my car metal playlist. They sound similar to The 69 Eyes (but they bit heavier).
I felt really sorry for the band because their sound engineers totally screwed up! First of all, they’ve left the band alone with plugging in speakers and columns (I’ve never seen it before, the rest of the bands was supported with the technical issues), so the concert was delayed. Additionally, with these sound systems settings, it was impossible to hear the vocal!
The band has asked for changing these settings for a few times, but they were completely ignored!! For God's sake, I’m not the sound system specialist, but even I could easily understand what the band wants to be changed!
Anyway, I liked the show they’ve made. I’ve felt their involvement, they were playing with the crowd all the time.

The second day was the Battle Beast day.
I’ve heard them live second time in my life (the first one was a few years ago when they supported some leading bands during the concert in Warsaw). Last time I had a lot of fun, this time they've warmed me up even more!
I have to admit, that Noora’s band’s concert was topping, they were the best during the whole 4-days event!
Technically the show was good; the band had a great time on the stage, they were asking their fans to sing with them, to clap their hands and they were just incredible.
After the first song, I realized that the crowd doubled in volume! It was a craze!
After the concert, I went for the autograph session and I got a photo with Noora :)

The third day has brought be a huge disappointment - again Masters of Rock organizers failed. According to the plan, concerts we wanted to take part in, have begun in the late evening, just before them Rage was supposed to meet with their fans at the backstage.
Rage is one of my favorite bands, so I dreamed about talking with them for a while! We’ve arrived at the R. Jelinek distillery (this is the place where the festival was organized) 45 minutes before the band was going to come out and… it turned out that the organizers have moved them for the earlier hour without saying a word! No information in social media, nothing on the official site, they’ve changed a plan just because.
Rage has started the autograph session less than 2 hours ahead of time, almost no one has come (because no one knew).
Of course, I’ve written about it in my social media and can you imagine how surprised I was when the band said, that they feel sorry about the situation? It was really nice.
The concert - they were totally badass; they’ve played with the Symphony Orchestra which sounds awesome! I’ve only missed a few popular songs I love ;)
The other bands which I’ve seen that day were Firewind, Tarja and Within Temptation.
I wasn’t amazed by Tarja, I really like her studio recordings, but during the live concert, I could only hear babble and noise. Additionally, I got the impression that it was more important for her to make great visual experiences than to sound good. Let’s just say that I’m not very impressed with her show, but anyway I’m happy I could hear her live.
On the other hand, Within Temptation was great!
Her duo song with Tarja went totally awesome (I was actually shocked).

The most important concert of the fourth (and the last) day was the Primal Fear show. I’ve also met them during backstage time. They’re really friendly guys, their concert was cracking. I’ll definitely buy tickets for their next concert close to Warsaw/with comfy access from Poland.

The last day I could also hear for the first time Dark Tranquility and Dream Theater live. Dream Theater is quite a popular band, so it’s possible that you know them even if you’re not metalheads ;)

The whole festival was totally ripping. I would like it to last longer than 4 days.
Next year I’m going to go for at least one of the metal festivals in the Czech Republic (Metalfest or Masters of Rock).
The perfect music, the atmosphere, meeting with the bands - these are all amazing and unforgettable experiences. I want to absorb this goodness, to feel it in my veins. I want to feel that I’m alive!

And at the end, the best of the bests - Battle Beast. Feel the music which makes me a gooseflesh.

  1. Having just come from a weekend-long convention, I sympathise with you; organizing something huge is really hard, and when they do it wrong, it's really wrong! My cat convention was teeny, tiny though, compared to yours. Looks like you had a great time, despite the errors.
